This isn't about the hoodies, the ice tea, or the skittles.
This isn't about the social media rants, black profile pictures, or Instagram Posts.
This is about Justice....But what does Justice look like to you?
Is it a guilty verdict, life sentence, or death penalty?
I believe that the true meaning of Justice is IMPACT. Justice is when the case ends, the media stops talking about it, but we don't FORGET.
This case, is so much bigger than Trayvon Martin. Trayvon represents the face of Thousands of young men who get robbed of their future because of senseless gang violence and hate crimes.
We will also lose hundreds of thousands of young black men, who will give their life to incarceration, because at some point, they will spend time on probation, parole, or in prison.
This should be a wake up call to our generation.
The fact that we are coming together to support the atrocity at the outcome of this trial is an amazing thing, and may we continue to do so, and not turn back against each other, in the wake of the injustice against one of our brothers.
So, It is my prayer that we can step out from behind our computers, move away from the television screen, put down our picket signs and step into our communities to become hands-on agents of change. It is my prayer that we become educated on police brutality, unfair verdicts, and other issues that get swept under the rug because that's where it is best kept by others who don't want us to have the knowledge.
Let's make sure that Trayvon did not die in vain. Let's make sure that his death, and this case, shine a light on the injustice that is happening daily, not only against the black community but within it as well. As we stand in agreement with Trayvons family,we know that God has the final say. He alone is the ultimate judge.
We have a responsibility.
We are at war, and losing, because we have not acknowledged that we are in a battle. We can not let the passing of time distract us from our ongoing fight.
Physical, spiritual, and racial conflicts have overtaken our communities. We can not remove God from our cities and expect peace.
He is our peace. He is our Justice.
